Kilpack's Epic Fantasy Crown Prince Finalist in Indie Ink Awards CompetitionWest Jordan, Uta. — Crown Prince: Book One of New Blood by award-winning Utah author W.D. Kilpack III is a finalist in the Indie Ink Awards in the Best Mentor Character category. Kilpack said, "I will never get tired of hearing from readers who appreciate my books. So much work goes into writing a novel, let alone an epic eight-book series, having a little appreciation shows goes a long way in making it feel like it's all worth it!" Crown Prince was nominated by reader(s) in four categories: Best Mentor Character, Best Friendship, Best Morally Gray Character, and Best Setting. Members of Indie Story Geek then voted online and only those with the most votes were named finalists. The finalists in 24 categories will then be read by the 80-member judging panel. This is the first time Kilpack's work has been included in the Indie Ink Awards. Kilpack has published five novels to date, four in the epic fantasy New Blood Saga (Crown Prince, Order of Light, Demon Seed, and Rilari), and the science-fiction novella, Pale Face. Between them, they have won 18 book awards and honors, including the International Firebird Book Award, The BookFest Award, Honorable Mention in L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future, Editor's Choice and Top Pick from BooksShelf.com, and runner-up finishes in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category of the Online Book Club's Book of the Year Competition. The sci-fi epic Battle Calm is coming soon. The Indie Ink Awards categories are broken down into two major sections: Writing the Future We Need and Best In. The Best-In awards should exemplify the chosen category. The Writing-the-Future categories should be exceptional in inclusion and diversity. Only self-published/small-press books are considered, and they must be on Indie Story Geek. Those published by subsidiaries of the Big 4 publishers are ineligible. Kilpack said, "This has been a very exciting process. The interactive element is new and very different from most of the other contests that I've taken part in. I am very aware of most of the other finalists in the Best Mentor Character category and there is nothing but quality that I can see. I can't wait to hear the results!" According to Sinister Soup podcast co-founder, Clay Vermulm, "Bill [Kilpack] is a wonderful man who works extremely hard on his craft. Kilpack delivers a stunning blow to the belief that Indie-Fantasy is worth any less that its salt [with] well-crafted epic[s] with unique plot mechanisms, well-developed and believable characters, and a world grounded in the visceral and the real." Author and screenwriter Jeff Bailey said that Kilpack "is an active author of novels, TV screenwriter, producer, and partner in a movie production company. I consider him to be one of the new breed of fast rising influencers in the publishing, television, and movie industries." Reviews of Crown Prince • "I've been won over by Crown Prince! The world is deeply conceived. The prose is well crafted. The solemn, almost-inhuman Guardian/seer standing guard during a deadly siege as the young queen gives birth makes for a hell of a great start! That weightiness to his character was a key point of interest to me that comes across right from the opening pages, plunging right into the thick of it for a wonderful change of pace. Crown Prince is intriguing, grand, strange, and shadowed by ill-omens. It is Shakespearean." — Tom Mock, author of The Long Nights About Kilpack Kilpack is an award-winning and critically acclaimed internationally published writer, with works appearing in print, online, radio and television, starting with his first publication credit at the age of nine, when he wrote an award-winning poem.
